You need to do your research…look for fashion schools and the courses offered. The class schedule will give you an idea of what career paths are offered in that field. Some fashion houses offer apprentice positions but you have to do your research. Start taking sewing classes. Look at books to help you be able to draw simple drawings. Get on it already.

Have you ever heard of the book "Think and Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill? Well, I can’t remember the exact circumstance, but there’s advice inthe book, about becoming an apprentice for someone high up in the company (preferably all the way up, no mid-management yo-yos here) and not get paid for it. In exchange, what you will learn will be invaluable if done right.
For your specific circumstance, you will get to know the "industry" from the back end. You’ll see if you really like how things are done, how they are handled, how the true geniuses of the industry got that way, and not just because they had money and a good marketing team to back them up either.
The book is totally worth looking at. Check it out at a local Borders or something for free and you’ll see what I mean.

PS: btw, this is an old, tried and true technique. for your generation, if all this sounds like some old-person mumbo jumbo (as it sounded like that to me when i was 17 when i first heard about it), well, i think Diddy got started this way at least. i’m sure u know him
