Retail display is an effective tool for sales promotion and product branding

According to POPAI’s (Point of Purchase Agency International) latest research publication, most of buying decisions happen in store. In fact over 70% of all purchased products are chosen within the retail environment.

Year to year there are thousands of new products coming to the markets and are competing for precious consumer attention. The ability to convert sales in the retail field cannot be left to chance. Take action, highlight your product, expose your brand. Keep your retail display designs fresh and updated with new trends. Secure a high margin with sophisticated retail display solutions and get the most out of  your limited retail floor space.

Retail Display Design that drives high margin conversions

Eye catching retail fixtures will help your product get noticed. Deploying a custom Retail display with strategic positioning within your store, you can positively influence customers mood and persuade shoppers to take a closer look to your featured item. If you successfully attract customers then your product is most likely already sold.

It is no secret that in many cases purchases happen impulsively. This behavior occurs a lot with products on counter top displays next to the cash register or on appealing retail displays that stand out in a crowd.

If you are planning to place your product in many different store locations, you will need a unified design for your retail display. The reason going for a consistent display is to support your brand recognition potential against many others in the competitive retail market.

For the store owner, retail space design and the right selection of retail displays will help you differentiate from direct competitors and convince shoppers to stay longer or come back to your store and make a purchase. Without an appealing store design using attractiveretail fixtures customers automatically downgrade your products value. This will cut your margins considerably.

Depending on the features of the product you want to sell and the customer base you are going to target, you should contact some retail display experts and discuss your plans. Together with an experienced merchandising solution company you will find ways how to drive conversions and improve your margins.

I am concerned about this coming holiday season in regards to stores staying in business. I have many friends that work in retail, and a couple of them have told me that they are afraid of losing their jobs because their store that they work at might close if business does not pick up during the holiday season. What do you think will happen to the Retail industry?

See what happens when we don’t believe in Santa…

I want a job in retail, but all employers want experienced only. Any suggestions?

Do you have a place like value village or salvation army.,. Like a thrift store where people donate stuff and then sell it? And take volunteers? They’re usually run by churches.
Volunteer at one of those for a couple weeks, and voila, you have retail experience.
Or apply to places like walmart that will hire almost anyone. Just because they PREFER experience doesn’t mean it’s a requirement. And usually even if you don’t have all the requirements you can still get in. My job now, I don’t think I even met half the requirements but as long as your enthusiastic it’s worth a try and they will sometimes take you.

We have all probably been through this at some stage. You are at one of your favorite retail outlets for new clothes and when you get to the check out counter, the sales assistant asks you if you want to sign up for their retail store credit card. Then she goes on to explain that you will save 15% on everything you purchase that day if you sign up for their card offer. It sounds great, doesn’t it? I mean who wouldn’t want to save more money? So you fill out the form and then happily leave the store with your purchases.

Although the initial saving of 15% is a good deal, you will find that it may not the case in the long run. Today many people have some sort of Retail store credit card and it is big business for the retailers as they make a lot of money from them. Furthermore, these cards served as a form of free advertisements for the retail stores.

However, such a card also has its share of drawbacks as well. Here are 4 of them:

1. Interest Rates

A retail store credit card tends to have an interest rate as high as 20 to 30%. On the other hand, a regular bank credit card usually has an interest rate that is less than 15%. As you can see, the increase in interest rate can be detrimental to your financial health if you do not pay your balance in full at the end of each billing cycle.

2. Credit Score Rating

Such credit cards can have a negative effect on a person’s credit score. The credit bureaus use a specific formula to calculate a person’s credit score and they will calculate retail store credit cards differently from those regular bank credit cards. The credit bureaus may rate you as high risk if you possess such card with high interest rate. This in turn could lower your credit score. Moreover, having too many credit cards can add more negative points to your credit score.

3. Even if you do not use the card, the effect on your credit score is still not desirable.

4. Many retail stores will often take personal information from you and then share it with other third party companies. They do this as they can make money from it. What happens is the other companies buy such lists from the retail outlets and then send those people on the lists their own offers in the mail or to an email address if one is provided. You can potentially receive more junk mail in your mailbox.

Before you sign up for any sort of retail store credit card, ask yourself if you really need it. If you visit the particular retail store on a regular basis and you have a strict discipline when it comes to managing your personal finance, such a card may be beneficial to you.

I would assume most people with a lot of retail experience must have started somewhere. I find that a lot of Retailers won’t even give you a thought if you apply without retail experience.

Depending on how old you are &the availability you have you may have to start somewhere small &low paying. Stores like Sears &Target are constantly hiring and usually only look for a friendly face with the right availability. Being 18 or older also helps since they will be able to schedule you at any time that they please &not break any laws. Don’t give up. Keep trying most stores provide training anyway. Good luck.

I’m 23, don’t have any degree, but good high school grades. I’m wondering how I could go about getting a job with a Retail company as a trainee retail manager. I have previous retail experience, but not in a management role.

Which would be the best company to apply to, and how would I apply?

I’ve seen these schemes advertised in papers like Metro, but I would imagine that most companies would advertise them on their websites also.

I know that Lidl and Morrison’s both have really good trainee schemes, although typically they are looking to hire graduates. I would start with their websites, and if there is no information on there, then call their head offices and ask to speak to someone in HR or recruitment.

Then, in terms of other companies to try, think about what companies are likely to have such schemes: it will primarily be large chains, so all the national supermarkets, and also department stores and high-street fashion stores. Again, just browse their websites for information.
