Report lost pets to your local vets providing them also with a photo and description.

Contact your local animal shelters and ask if any lost pets have been handed in around the time your pet went missing.

Keep checking the same places over and over again as your pet could return to a place you may have already looked.

I seem to think that my cats are bored because they sleep too much!
They seem sad, not very playful and they are only 1 year old.
What are some signs of happy Pets or unhappy pets?

Cats are supposed to sleep an average of 18 hours a day… that is perfectly normal… as long as they eat sleep and poop normally… you have a happy cat… some cats are just not that playful while others are bouncing off the wall… chill… they are cats doing what cats do best lol

Diabetes and Pets

Posted by admin | 14/03/10 | Tagged Pets

Diabetes is one of the most common hormonal disorders in dogs and cats. When the pet’s body has too much blood glucose because is insensitive to the available insulin in his body or because doesn’t produce enough insulin, diabetes occurs.

There are known two types of diabetes. When there is an insufficient number of insulin-producing cells in the body, there appears a deficiency of insulin leading to type 1 diabetes. This type of diabetes is not preventable, appears usually in young pets and is the most serious form of the disease.

Type 2 diabetes results from a body’s resistance to the effects of insulin and usually more affected are obese and older pets. It is known that weight control through diet and exercise may help preventing the onset of type 2 diabetes.

There are some signs and symptoms that can show diabetes is present. The most common are increased water consumption and frequency of urination, but also weight loss despite a large appetite may occur. It is known that diabetes can become a life-threatening condition for your pet if it is left uncontrolled.

In order to see if your pet has diabetes, you should take it to the veterinarian. The veterinarian will perform a physical examination, including blood and urine tests.

After that, if it is necessary, he will recommend an appropriate course of treatment for the pet. It is known that most diabetic Pets require one or two daily injections of insulin to control blood glucose levels.

However, the treatment may also include a combination of oral medication, a special veterinarian recommended diet and regular exercise ; it is recommended spaying in female diabetic pets.

The diabetic pets should be close monitored. It was seen that low blood glucose levels, resulting in disorientation, weakness or seizures can appear because of the insulin overdoses.

It is known that the daily insulin injections are the most effective way to treat diabetic pets. It is important to relax, not to be nervous when you are giving the injection to the pet, because it might feel your emotions and become nervous too.

It is important to warm the insulin before you administer it, by holding between the fingers for a minute the syringe full of insulin.

A good advice is to reward your pet after giving it the injection. In this way, the pet will associate the injection with a pleasant experience.

The doctors say that diabetic pets have not a significantly shorter life span than healthy pets. Diabetes can not be cured, but with treatment, patience and love, the diabetic pet can have a happy and normal life.

I have a puppy from Adelaide being flown up to the pilbara today. He has a stopover in Perth for 30-35 minutes. What will happen to him there? Do they store the Pets in air-conditioning, are they fed? Looked over to make sure they are ok? Are they given water?

For a 35 minute stopover he would stay in the freight hanger
If he missed his connection then the airline would be required (we hope!) to send him to a kennel

We just moved into a beautiful Home and unfortunately our neighbor has about a half dozen cats and they seem to like our front yard as a litter box. (yuck!) We have three small children and no pets so having to pick up after someone elses pets is not cool at all. Plus it’s unsanitary! What can use that is eco-friendly and safe. Thank you and all answers are welcomed!

Well, let’s see. A yard is tricky since it’s such a large area. I normally sprinkle raw, fresh pepper over the areas I don’t want any of my four cats (all indoor babies) getting into. They really don’t appreciate the sneezing attacks that ensue.

I don’t approve of all the options listed in this site, but it has some good suggestions that are eco-friendly.

Providing First Aid For Pets

Posted by admin | 11/03/10 | Tagged Pets

Let’s face it; in many homes around the world, the family pet is just that – part of the family. There is nothing that loving pet owners would not do to ensure the longevity and vitality of their pet. So it’s unsurprising that pet owners are well versed in first aid for pets. Knowing what to do in order to temporarily treat injuries or react in an emergency can significantly impact the health of your pet.

Because most pets are similar to children in their natural curiosity, they can sometimes get in over their heads resulting in injury. Just as we prepare for minor injuries and serious emergencies when it comes to our children, so too must we make similar preparations for our pets.

Much of what we would include in a first aid kit for the human members of our household can also be included in a first aid for pets kit. Gauze, scissors, tape, alcohol or other antiseptic with which to clean a wound, antibacterial cream, and tweezers are all important items to include when administering first aid for pets.

Keep in mind that an animal who is in pain will often snap at you in an effort to keep you away from its wound. Use extreme caution when approaching your injured pet. Regardless of your warm and loving relationship, your pet may surprise you. This is simply an instinctual reaction. You may want to keep a muzzle handy should you ever need to administer emergency first aid for Pets to a growling or biting animal.

First and foremost, keep in mind that first aid for pets is only a first line in defense against injuries. A veterinarian should always be consulted when dealing with an injury. You can certainly treat minor injuries at home but always give a call to your vet to make sure your pet does not need to be seen.

Of course, in the event of an emergency, administer what lifesaving first aid that you can and get to an animal hospital immediately. Keep the numbers of your veterinarian and your local animal hospital posted in clear sight.

For more information about preparing appropriate first aid for pets, your veterinarian can be enormously helpful. Ask him/her what to keep on hand in the event of an emergency. The short amount of time that it takes to gather such necessary items will be well worth the effort should you ever need to administer first aid for pets.

What do your pets do when you get in the bed?

Posted by admin | 09/03/10 | Tagged Pets

I have 3 cats and the youngest always comes running from wherever he is at in the house when he hears me turn on the fan and jumps right in the bed with me. It’s sooo cute. The others will eventually come and run across my head while I’m sleeping or wake me up in the morning, but my youngest definitely has them beat in this category with his antics.
What cute or annoying things do your Pets do when you are in the bed?

My 2 cats each sleep on either side of me in bed. The dogs would like to also but the cats won’t let them.

My cat George is very dysfunctional since he was taken from his mom at 4 weeks. (He’s now 7 years old). He kneads bread on me and puts his head on my shoulder and in the morning, gently taps my face until I wake up to give him his breakfast. He’s better than any alarm clock I’ve had. Trouble is, he wants his breakfast at 5AM!!

Insurance for Vip Pets

Posted by admin | 08/03/10 | Tagged Pets

When most people think a pet is spoiled feel that it is getting to many treats, has too many expensive toys scattered around the ground, or it’s allowed to sleep at night in bed with its humans, normally taking up the entire bed and hogging all the covers. I once even saw a pot bellied pig who was so spoiled that its humans designed an built the miniature porker its very own out house so it wouldn’t get cold answering natures call.

Japanese pet owners take the term very-important-pets to a whole new level. In Japan well loved pets enjoy aromatherapy, acupuncture, trips to the doggie spa where they a lovingly massaged, and in some cases have their very own personal trainers.

It is a well known fact that we tend to spoil our pets because we love them we want them to have the best of everything but recent studies have shown that pampering our pets might actually doing as much harm as good. One recent study from an undisclosed source claims that we are actually making our beloved pets stupid by spoiling them. We are in such a hurry to make their lives easier that we take away their need to problem solve on their own. The less they have to loose their brains the less they can do on their own. This problem is especially common in households were the dog seems to be running the show. What would happen to that pet if it really had to think for itself?

A concern veterinarians have regarding spoiled pets is weight. The more spoiled the pet the more obese it seems to become. The obesity can lead to later health issues that can actually decrease the life of the pet. Weight can affect the skeletal system until hip problems start to develop, obesity can cause respiratory and cardiac problems, the extra pounds of blubber constantly pushing on the joints can start to create stiffness and discomfort.

It is not uncommon for veterinarians to see a lot of the spoiled pet as it enters into the last few years of its life. The problem with older overweight pets is that every time they are brought to the vet clinic they are exposed to more germs, bacteria, and viruses that can lead to still more endless trips to the vet.

For the most part the humans caring for the very-important-pet don’t have to worry about the increasing number of the visits to see a doctor. Most doting parents bought pet health care insurance during the early years of the pet’s life. All of the pet’s health care needs are essentially bought and paid for.      I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if in a few years you didn’t see pet health insurance companies raising the rates of their VIP customers. On solution to the pudgy, somewhat shallow house pet is the appearance of specialist animal slimming clinics. Pet owners can go to these clinics and learn all about their pets nutritional needs and exercise programs that will help the spoiled child start to shed some of those unnecessary pounds.

Just an FYI, I like animals. I think they should be treated fairly, although maybe not to the extent PETA would like. But I do not condone animal cruelty. On that same note, first world countries treat animals like royalty at times. There are plenty of pet owners who treat Pets like they are their own children and would spend easily 50+ bucks just so they’re dog could get a pampered bath and groom. Meanwhile, a starving third world child may struggles to get even a few cents worth of food with any nutritional value.

Yes, my dog is more important to me than any kids in the third world, and that is true for deveral very good reasons.

First of all those companies that advertise on TV pay their CEO’s 300K a year. Only about 1/4 of the money you send ever reaches that country. After it gets there it lines the pockets of the rich. Only a few pennies of that $50 will buy anything for the child.

Secondly, when you give money, you only make the situation worse. You take away their reason to work for themselves. I have seen that in the USA many times. My friends that grew up with everything can hardly function as adults. I had barely food to eat when I grew up. I managed to work my way through college on my own.

Thirdly, the government’s of those countries are making a fortune off people, like you, sending money. They have a vested interest in keeping the children poor so that they can keep photographing them and suckering you into sending money. Keep in mind that for some of those countries their biggest export is photographs of starving children. The government officials have palaces and drive expensive cars thanks to people like yourself.
