Cruise travel from ports close to home is what passengers want now. In almost all of the cruise reviews, cruise travelers have expressed concern with long airline trips to distant lands. Now they want to cruise from ports that are close to home to enjoy a less stressful cruise vacation. The cruise lines have caught on to this trend and are now positioning their ships up and down the United States East and West Coasts and along the Gulf of Mexico. Let’s explore the ports of embarkation on the West Coast starting in Southern California at the port of San Diego and go northward.

If you can take the time before or after your cruise travel, spend some extra time in San Diego. The city of San Diego is blessed with year round warm weather and seventy miles of Pacific Coastline. There are many activities to enjoy while in the city. They have a first class, world famous zoo in Balboa Park. At Old Town State Historic Park learn about the History of California. Near the downtown area there are 15 excellent museums and gorgeous gardens.

A little further up north is Long Beach just 20 miles south of Los Angeles. Here is where the Queen Mary retired to in 1967 and is permanently docked serving as a Hotel. With more 12,000 sea creatures the aquarium is a delightful spot to spend a couple of hours.

If you plan to take your cruise vacation out of Los Angeles there are plenty of sights to see. A pre or post cruise package from the cruise lines will allow you to see the many cultural centers or drive by the star studded neighborhoods of Malibu, Bel Air and Hollywood. Be sure to see Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, Chinatown and the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Visit funky Venice Beach and dine in the many excellent restaurants. And don’t forget to at least window shop on Rodeo Drive.

The dazzling Golden Gate Bridge will be what you sail under on you cruise vacation from San Francisco. Many cruise reviews have mentioned this city as one of the favorites from which to start a cruise. You may opt to take a side trip to the vineyards of Napa and Sonoma Valleys for a day. While in San Francisco check out Fisherman’s Wharf, or take a cable car ride through the city. In this city there are numerous excellent restaurants. There is a ferry that will take you over to Alcatraz Island for a glimpse into the life of the prisoners.

Perhaps you have chosen Seattle, Washington as your embarkation port. The lovely Puget Sound area is rich with history of the maritime industries. The Olympic Mountains will leave you feeling awed when viewed from the Space Needle that is 607 feet high. For fun don’t miss the Pike Street Market for fresh seafood and produce. There are many fleets of sport fishing boats for fishing or for whale watching.

Even further up the coast you are now in Alaskan territory. Fairbanks, which was once a booming mining town, is the entrance to Alaska’s interior. If you stay here for a day or two try a really Alaskan adventure and go dog sledding. Maybe you would like to pan for gold, another part of Alaska’s history. If you want to see the Northern Lights plan your cruise vacation for late August or early September.

Choosing a cruise vacation out of Whitter, Alaska will allow you to go whale watching, and look for sea lions and bald eagles. This is a small quaint town that really lets you feel what Alaska is all about.

You will fly into Anchorage for departure from Seward, Alaska. Try to stay a few days to explore the riches Anchorage has to offer. There is the beautiful Denali National Park, where Mt. McKinney offers spectacular scenery. In Seward you can take a cruise to the Kenai Fjords as a day trip.

Any of these cruise ports will make a great start for your cruise vacation. So when planning any cruise travel pick a port that’s close to home and leave some time for exploring the town of embarkation.

I need to find someone in my area that will do a good job of fixing my Home theatre system for multiple connections like dvd recorder, blueray player, stero receiver, cable receiver and hd tv. The cabe company is useless for doing a good job and making sure everything works correctly. Does anyone have any recommendations for the dayton area?

Try calling Best Buy, they are probably the less expensive one. High end video store also does this, and have more experience in installing high end system through out the whole house but they are not cheap. Hope this will help you out.

What should my home theatre decor be?

Posted by admin | 15/03/10 | Tagged Home Theatre

I am in the process of finishing my basement and i have decided to make an area for a Home Theatre system everything, the whole deal speakers, tvs, xbox, playstation 3, i was wondering what colour should i paint the room, what would look good?

Do very dark walls… like a chocolate brown with a dark red curtain to wrap around inclose the area to make it very dark and intimate. Put cool comfy chairs in there with lots of floor pillows on a fluffy plush throw rug.
Do rods hanging from the ceiling with metal curtain rings so the curtains can slide easily. Use a heavy dark drape fabric to block out all light.
Be creative with surrond sound speaker placement. Really make it like a theatre. The curtains can be pulled back and left open when not in use.
The design on the walls can blend with the rest of the room.

Use a dark flat paint on the walls then use a disposable baby diaper to blot on a lighter version of the same color over the flat paint except the light paint should be a semi-gloss or gloss. This will achieve a very expensive textured effect to the paint without using a horrible wall paper or something else hard to paint over when/if you want to change the design.

Perhaps do an old Hollywood theme. Put up pics of black and white images from vintage Hollywood movies. Maybe some old movie reels hanging from the wall with real film in them. (Doesn’t matter what is actually on the film, it is just for decoration)

Take two piece of plexiglass….
Between the plexi glass make a collage of movie images such as those cut from old VHS tape boxes…. place them however you want. Glue them to a piece of paper cut the same size as the plexi glass…. then simply place it between the glass and cover with the second piece. Find a sturdy coffee table to set this on as an artistic ‘new table’.

Custom Home Theaters Quick Tips

Posted by admin | 14/03/10 | Tagged Home Theatre

We have all enjoyed watching movies at the cinemas. The atmosphere and the good sense of relaxing that comes with the movie theater trip can seldom be duplicated. Let’s face it, this might be one of our motivating factors to go. We certainly know it isn’t for there excellent price specials.

Sometimes you may have wished that you could have stayed at home to watch the flick instead. The technology of today has made this a reality for a great many of us. Custom home theaters can truly make your home movie watching even more pleasurable. Now, lets look at a few items that are needed in this home theater.

Now what can you do to have a custom home theater? Well to get the custom home theaters look and feel you will need a separate room for the theatre experience. One that is solely dedicated to the home theater room. Trust me many have tried to have a room serve more than this purpose and it’s never really worked out. This room will need to be transformed into a movie plaza. To accomplish this you will need to get rid of all the other stuff that you have crowded in the room.

This means nothing that isn’t contributing to your new home theater room. This means no treadmill or elliptical, no bean bags or futons and no other erroneous stuff that has no home in the house. This is important, because you must be able to have room for the seating.

You will need to see if there is enough light in the room to give your custom Home theater the necessary atmosphere that it may need. Also, is must be enough lighting for the other tasks that you might be doing. With lighting you have many options. One that you might consider is dimming styled light fixtures. This way you can have the light you need for most occasions, if it is needed.

One of the best ways that you can have oodles of lights in the room, without having to wire in new light fixtures, is to buy some floor lamps that have multiple lights. Now if you can get these lights to swivel in various directions you can then position the lights where they will do the greatest good in various custom home theater designs.

After having emptied your home base (that extra room) for custom home theaters and the accessories that are required you need to find a home for your big projection screen. This home must be strategically placed in the room, so where ever you sit it is comfortable viewing. Remember, one of the goals is comfort. It also should be situated preferably where sunlight and other lights in the room won’t surface to be a big distraction. Any windows that are in the room can be covered with tasteful drapes. However, the best scenario is to have a room with no windows.

Now having lugged your brand new home theater projection system (big screen TV) into place you will need to see about the seating arrangements. The main goal in custom home theaters is that your family and friends should be very comfortable during the movie watching period. Hence you will need to see about having a good home theatre seating arrangement.

There are several different arrangements one can have. So, discover and document your needs. For instance, how many people on the average do you want to accommodate? Do you have kids that have friends? Does your family like to entertain guests on a frequent basis? Just a few things to ask yourself. This will give you a better understanding of your home theater needs.

There are many places on the Net where you can get various dissimilar home theater chairs and accessories to add to the various looks that you want in custom home theaters. The accessories can be minimal and still have a good look.

When you have added all of these items into your new entertainment center you will find that you have recreated a movie theater right in your home. Now you can sit back, with popcorn in hand and enjoy the show.

I’m looking to find out what to look for in a receiver or Home theatre system so I am able to watch tv inside, and play a dvd or ipod outside using the same receiver. (i.e. Dora inside and Radiohead outside on the deck) Any help would be appreciated!!

there’s a lot of multi-room receivers out there but i don’t think it would be able to play 2 sources at the same time, I am not sure though. i suggest you go visit bestbuy or magnolia.

I have a phillips Home Theatre running to a Sony TV. The TV is surround sound capable. DVD comes thru fine, TV only operates with it’s own sound.

yes, it’s true that you have to hook the tv up to the receiver using the a/v (white and red) cables. but then you would also want to go to the menu in the tv and make sure that the internal speakers are turned off. you may also need to turn the volume of the tv up. this would be in the case that the output on the back of the tv is of the "variable" variety. if the output is "fixed" then you would not need to adjust the volume on the television. make sure that wherever you connect the tv on the back of the receiver labeled IN, you have the receiver on that function.

Manchester United`s Theatre of Dreams

Posted by admin | 11/03/10 | Tagged Home Theatre

Old Trafford Football Ground is located at – Sir Matt Busby Way, Old Trafford, Manchester. Sir Matt Busby Way was created in 1993, and was formerly known as Warwick Road North.

The ground’s nickname is the Theatre Of Dreams.

Old Trafford has been Manchester United’s home since 1910, with the exception of an eight-year period from 1941 to 1949, when it was bombed in the second world war. During that period United played their ‘Home‘ games at the ground of their rivals, Manchester City – at a financial cost of course. They had to pay City for the privilege consisting of a flat fee, and a gate percentage.

Old Trafford’s current capacity is over 76,000. It’s hoped that in time it will expand even further to 90,000 with greater capacity in the South Stand.

The ground has frequently hosted FA Cup semi-final matches as a neutral venue and several England international fixtures while the new Wembley Stadium was under construction. Before Wembley Stadium was built in 1923 the FA Cup Finals were played around the country, with Old Trafford hosting several of these.

Manchester United were formerly called Newton Heath, but it was decided in 1909 to build a new stadium. Designed by Scottish architect Archibald Leitch, the ground featured seating in the south stand under cover, while the remaining three stands were uncovered terraces.

In 1965 the old roof pillars were replaced with modern-style cantilevering on top of the roof, allowing all spectators a completely unobstructed view. This was an important step, as the World Cup was to be staged in the UK in the following year, 1966. Old Trafford was one of the venues used for the tournament.

By the 1980’s the capacity had dropped to around 60,000 due to all the improvements in the ground. The capacity dropped still further in 1990, when the Taylor Report recommended, for safety reasons, and with the Government’s agreement, that all stadia be converted to all-seaters.

Old Trafford’s most recent expansion, which took place between July 2005 and May 2006, saw an increase of around 8,000 seats with the addition of second tiers to both the north-west and north-east sections of the ground.

Further redevelopments saw United buy up additional land round about.

The Old Trafford pitch is now surrounded by four covered all-seater stands, officially known as the North, East, South and West Stands. The West End is the ‘Stretford End’ where the diehard, most vocal, United fans sit.

On 29 May 2008, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Manchester United’s first European Cup title, a statue of the club’s old stars of George Best, Denis Law and Bobby Charlton, entitled “The United Trinity”, was unveiled across Sir Matt Busby Way from the East Stand.

The ground continues to break attendance records. The newer Emirates Stadium, home of Arsenal FC, has a lower capacity, just over 60,000. Only one football ground has a higher capacity than the Theatre of Dreams, and that’s at the new Wembley Stadium in London.

Manchester United supporters have an insatiable appetite for watching their team play. It seems that however big the ground gets, the seats will almost always be filled. That’s what success on the pitch does for this wonderful game, and this glorious team that is Manchester United.

Home Health Mobility Aids

Posted by admin | 08/03/10 | Tagged Home Theatre

Home health mobility aids can help carrying out day to day medical tasks. Whether to assist with recuperation, or to help a healthcare professional, there are various mobility aids to make home health tasks easier to carry out.

Here are 8 types of home health mobility aids which are designed to make your life easier.

1.Medicine dispensers or pill boxes are useful for those who may have to take several doses of medication a day. For example, some dispensers can store a weeks worth of medication, also making it ideal for holidays. Different sorts are available which may feature an alarm to inform the user when its time to take the medication. The dispensers are usually labelled with the day of the week so that the user and or a carer can see whether the medication has been taken.

2.Tablet cutters and crushers can make preparing medication easier for the individual as well as the healthcare professional. Depending on the model, the tablet cutter may have a storage compartment for pills. Pill crushers can be ideal for dispensing medicine to children or those who have difficulties swallowing.

3.A TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) machine, works by passing a very small electrical current across the nerve which carries the pain signal to the brain. If the brain receives no pain signal, then you feel no pain. TENS machines usually have variable settings and programmes so that you are able to manage the pain simply and effectively. They are small, discreet and portable so that you can take them with you. Similar to a TENS machine, a pen type device uses an electric pulse to activate the body’s endorphins. This type of device is effective on minor, chronic or acute pain such as back pain, headache and arthritis.

4.For those who are struggling to hear conversations, or find themselves turning up the radio or TV, there are a number of devices which can help. A sound magnifier is similar in size to a personal stereo, and amplifies the sound through headphones. This means that the TV or radio can be kept at a low enough volume so as not to disturb others. It is ideal for use at the cinema, and the theatre for example, as well as in the home and garden. An in-ear hearing device is discreet and will provide a welcome volume and clarity boost to those who need it most. As the name suggests, they fit inside the ear, unlike headphones. A traditional style hearing aid is still a popular choice, and has a sensitive microphone. This type of hearing aid fits comfortably behind the ear, making it ideal for wearing for a long time, such as throughout the day or evening.

5.Thermometers can play a vital part in healthcare, and having an accurate, easy to read thermometer can save time. Digital thermometers have an easy to read LCD display, and a long battery life. An infra-red in ear thermometer can take an accurate reading within seconds, and some models can save several previous readings to allow comparisons to be made. A thermometer shaped like an infant’s dummy can be used to take the temperature of a child quickly and easily, without causing too much distress to the child.

6.Various supports and braces are available to help treat conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome, RSI, arthritis, tendonitis and other wrist disorders and injuries. There are various types available, depending on the condition and the user’s requirements. Different types of splints and supports are available for other conditions, and other limbs.

7.Exercise and rehabilitation products can also be used at home, perhaps in conjunction with physiotherapy or other medical treatment. From gel ball hand exercisers to running machines, there are many suitable products available to help with rehabilitation as recommended by medical experts.

8.For people affected by SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) the winter months can be a depressing time. Symptoms such as depression, lethargy, anxiety sleeplessness and social problems are common in those suffering with SAD. SAD is usually attributed to the lack of daylight during the winter months. Light affects the body in a number of ways and also affects the levels of melatonin, adrenalin, seratonin and dopamine, which influence moods, emotions, eating and sleeping. Light treatments are shown to have a positive effect for those with SAD, as well as for treating jet lag. There are different types of light treatments available, which range from small portable lights to much larger briefcase sized devices.

These are just a few examples of the range and variety of household Health aids that are available. Why not see if there’s a mobility health product that could make your daily living easier?

Ok looking for a home theatre for my hdtv, hdmi compatability. But if I buy a Home theatre with hdmi and connect it to the tv through component, will there be much of a difference if it where the hdmi version? Just looking towards the sound quality since my ps3 can’t support the sound on the regular tv speakers.

HDMI is a single cable (looks like a giant USB cable) that will transmit both Hi-def video content up to 1080p and true surround sound. Component HD cables transmit video up to 1080i, so you won;t notice much of a difference in video quality (none if your tv can’t display 1080p). With component HD, you will need to decide on an audio connection.

Your PS3 has an hdmi out so that would solve all your problems if your receiver has an HDMI INPUT. You plug the ps3 into the receiver via HDMI, plug the receiver to the tv using component and you should be good to go.

Other audio options include Digital Optical or plain old RCA(white/red) cables.

Btw, those RCA cables SHOULD work on just about any setup…it will only be stereo but it should work. Are you using that with your current setup?
